SITAR! classical Indian music performed by members of Edinburgh's thesitarproject

A concert of meditative.... exotic....exciting... classical Indian music - a combination of ancient melodies,improvisation, intricate rhythms and music inspired by Indian folk melodies. The concert will feature sitar (the best known Indian instrument), tabla (a pair of drums often used to accompany an instrument or vocalist ) and tampura (a stringed instrument with a magical sound ,providing a constant drone and backdrop to the melodies ).

Once again we are delighted to welcome talented young singers from the Ian Tomlin School performing a mixture of songs and arias, including the Queen of the Night's aria from Magic Flute. The singers will include Christine Barbara (from Malta), Kathleen Cronie (from Aberdeen), Robbie Milner (from Edinburgh)and Monica Toll (from Glasgow). Scott Mitchell will accompany them on the Concert Society's Bösendorfer concert-grand piano.
