CHARLOTTE BRAY Those Secret Eyes
ROBERT SCHUMANN Fantasiestücke Op.88
BRAHMS Piano Trio No.1 in B major
Continuing our anniversary theme, the concert will begin with the first piano trio ever performed for us, written by the father of the piano trio, before leaping into the present with Charlotte Bray’s short, evocatively named work inspired by the female characters in Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Schumann’s whimsical (and rarely performed) Fantastiestücke will be followed by Brahms’ first piano trio, written when he was just 20 years old. This imaginative programme leads us from the beginning of piano trio writing all the way up to the present day, encouraging us to celebrate new writing in this genre whilst keeping an eye on the past.

... [the Lark Piano Trio] relish a mission to bring neglected repertoire into the limelight... [and] exemplify while doing so the joy of chamber music making." Edinburgh Music Review
The Lark Piano Trio is one of Scotland’s most dynamic chamber ensembles. As well as championing the rich canon of works for piano trio, they have a passion for unearthing hidden treasures for this instrumentation, with a focus on living composers.
In 2024, they were awarded first prize at the prestigious Cavatina Chamber Music Competition at Wigmore Hall. They won the Governor’s Recital Prize at the RCS the same year, and were selected as one of the ensembles on Chamber Studio’s “Hans Keller Forum”.
The trio combine their love of performance and teaching in a multi-faceted career, all holding faculty positions at St Mary’s Music School in Edinburgh, and perform across the UK and internationally.
