“Always a player in absolute service to the composer” (The Observer), Steven Osborne is one of Britain’s most treasured musicians whose insightful interpretations reveal immense musical depth. His numerous awards include The Royal Philharmonic Society Instrumentalist of the Year and two Gramophone Awards. He is renowned for his interpretations of French music, especially Debussy. The Financial Times reviewer wrote, "He has Debussy's entire sound-world in his grasp." Of Osborne’s recording of Rachmaninov’s Piano Sonata No.1 released on Hyperion earlier this year, BBC Record Review declared, "I can't imagine this being better played."
He has performed at many of the world’s prestigious venues including the Wiener Konzerthaus, Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Berlin Philharmonie, Hamburg Elbphilharmonie, Suntory Hall Tokyo, and Kennedy Center Washington and is a regular guest at both Lincoln Center and Wigmore Hall. We are delighted to welcome him back to Haddington.
