MUSSORGSKY Pictures at an Exhibition
To celebrate our piano’s return, the young Scottish-based Russian pianist Nikita Lukinov – praised for “the extraordinary breadth and freedom of his imagination” – will take us on a journey from the introspection of late Brahms to the majesty of the Great Gate of Kiev, revealing both his own virtuosity and the sonorous sound world of the Bösendorfer.
in association with Live Music Now Scotland Join us for a reception after the concert to celebrate the return of the Bösendorfer and our inspiring new home at St Mary's. |
Heralded for his “extraordinary breadth and freedom of imagination” (Gramophone), praised as an “Exceptional talent” (The Scotsman), and named a “Rising Star” by the BBC Music Magazine, NIKITA LUKINOV stands out as one of the most exciting pianists based in Scotland. A recent graduate of Scotland's Royal Conservatoire, he already has an impressive international presence, performing as a soloist in prestigious venues across the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, France, Poland, Croatia, Germany and Russia. Most notable appearances include venues such as the Wigmore Hall, Usher Hall, Southbank Centre, Palau de la Música, Fazioli Hall, Verbier Festival and Tchaikovsky Conservatoire in Moscow.
He comes to Haddington as part of a 20-concert Scottish tour supported by the City Music Foundation, taking classical music to diverse communities, with special outreach events in local care homes and schools organised by Live Music Now Scotland.
from the Gramophone review of his debut CD in August 2023:
Lukinov turns 25 [in 2023]. His publicity materials modestly describe him as a ‘disciple of the Russian School’, but one might confidently replace ‘disciple’ with ‘embodiment’. He exhibits mamy of the attributes of that association, among them extraordinary technical polish, rhythmic acumen and a strong musical point of view. Yet in Lukinov’s case, one must factor in the extraordinary breadth and freedom of his imagination. With his performances already a tremendous pleasure to experience, one is left wondering what form his gifts will take as he matures.
